To avoid sounding like a broken record, I’ll try to avoid naming the most well-known beaches out there, which will certainly prove useful to you as well, since the inflated prices there are actually egregious. So without further ado, these are the best, moodiest, most interesting beaches on the Pacific Coast of the United States (with an added expense score).
Cannon Beach – Oregon
Controversially enough, I’ll start with a beach NOT located in California. Cannon Beach is known for its stunning rock formations like Haystack Rock, wide sandy shores, and moody Pacific Northwest vibes. It’s artsy, quiet, and ideal for a relaxing coastal escape with boutique shops and scenic walking trails. Expense Level: 5/10

Moonstone Beach – California
At the midpoint between Los Angeles and San Jose, in Cambria, Moonstone Beach offers a peaceful stretch of boardwalk, tide pools, and stunning sunsets. It’s great for a low-key retreat and tends to be more affordable than Southern California hotspots. All the jazz for a lesser price. Expense Level: 6/10
Pfeiffer Beach – California
Unfortunately, not as pocket-friendly, hidden in Big Sur, Pfeiffer Beach stands out with its purple sand and rock archways. It’s lesser-known and has a secret vibe, but access can be tricky, and lodging nearby is often upscale. Expense Level: 9/10
Cape Arago State Park – Oregon
This is my personal preference, in this state park you get dramatic cliffs, seal-watching, and multiple beaches all in one area. It’s far less known than Cannon or other Oregon gems, but it offers dramatic Pacific views and trails. It’s also much cheaper, and you get a unique, nature-filled experience at an expense level of: 3/10
La Jolla Shores – California
The location is very convenient as it in San Diego, where La Jolla Shores offers gentle waves, sea caves, and excellent kayaking or snorkeling. It’s popular with families and outdoor enthusiasts who want scenic beauty and wildlife. Expense Level: 7/10
We hope that our list helped you find the best Pacific Coast beach for you, and we’ll catch you later on Instagram
